logo accesschool - small The results expected from the Accesschool project are : creation of a teachers’ “kit bag”, creation of a methodology for the measurement of accessibility in the field of educational methods, architecture, facilities and services and operational solutions, creation of an on-line list of European schools and training institutions

The expected results:

The results expected from the Accesschool project are as follows:
1. creation of a teachers’ “kit bag” to enable (future) head teachers, teachers and decision makers in the education and vocational training sector:
− to train themselves very specifically in the needs both of pupils with a disability and of the head teachers of the host schools, and in the solutions to be implemented per type of deficiency;
− to have information at their disposal on the resources available to them (list of addresses, websites);
2. creation of a methodology for the measurement of accessibility in the field of educational methods (1), architecture (2), facilities and services (3) and operational solutions (4) specifically adapted to the schools and training institutions (through analysis of the deficiencies, the resulting problems for a pupil, the solutions to be implemented in the above-mentioned four areas, and the data relevant for measuring or expressing a specific need);
3. creation of an on-line list of European schools and training institutions, giving an accurate measurement of their degree of access (Acceschool database). This will be fitted with a personalised search tool based on the personal profile of a pupil with special needs, and will be included in the Accescity database which already provides specific information on real accessibility in respect of a growing number of shops, administrations, car parks, and other elements of the built-up environment in the vicinity of a school or training centre.

These results are mainly aimed at meeting the following objectives:
1. to promote the integration of persons with a disability in the traditional schooling and training system and contribute towards the fight against discrimination
2. to facilitate the development of innovative practices as regards the integration of persons with a disability in the traditional teaching systems, and the transfer of good practices from one participating country to another: dissemination of teaching aids and practical tools on both pupils’ and head teachers’ needs and the solutions; possibility for a head teacher to identify other schools with which an exchange of good practices and cooperation could be envisaged; incentive to innovation thanks to accessibility being made visible;
3. to promote cooperation between schools or organisations offering schooling and training, the social partners and the other bodies involved in the integration of pupils with a disability in Europe, by making it possible to identify schools with innovative practices and providing addresses and resource sites;
4. to improve the quality and increase the mobility in Europe of pupils and of adults wishing to attend continuous training courses, where these pupils and adults have a disability, by enabling them to identify possibilities for training and courses that meet their needs;
