The accesschool project work in the scope of :

- The Madrid Declaration of March 2002, since this declaration states that: "Therefore, the school will constitute the central place for personal development and social integration. It will thus enable disabled children and teenagers to gain as great an autonomy as possible. The education system is the first step towards an inclusive society."

- The United Nations Declaration of December 2006: "(…) the Party States take appropriate measures to guarantee them, on the basis of equality with others, access to the physical environment, transport, information and communication, including information and communication systems and technologies, and to the other facilities and services open to or provided to the public, (…). These measures, which include the identification and removal of obstacles and barriers to accessibility, apply, among other things, to : a) buildings, roads, transport and other interior or exterior facilities, including schools,(…)".

Moreover, the European Commission decided to make 2007 the "European Year of Equal Opportunities for All", an initiative dovetailing with the efforts aimed at promoting equality and non-discrimination in the EU. However, despite the constraining laws on accessibility to public buildings and despite the obligations and laws promoting equal opportunities and the fight against discrimination, we see that participation in ordinary schools and training institutions of persons with a disability (on account of a deficiency or their size, weight, state of health, etc.) is still eminently problematic in many European countries.
